In the end, I might well end up with a library -- Brutalism, baby!! Enough detail to please the eye, but not so fragile you couldn't play rough -- and all smart inside!!
The Robarts.
The Geisel -- actually if you
look at it from the right angle, it's like a bigger, better, uncompromising Stahl in all its cantilever goodness -- there's the missing substance we were looking for earlier!
(Pretty weird, I expected
Calatrava to feature prominently in there, but I guess with him it's more, he might win on overall oeuvre, but not any single one building ... As Gehry-atrics go, I appreciate tin houses such as the
Disney or the
Guggenheim in Bilbao for their shiny facade and flamboyant style, but it seems so hard to get below the surface, the lack of windows preventing intimacy ... The
EMP makes me laugh, but that's overrated. I could warm up to the
Weisman's playful, interesting, surprising, though -- sometimes, beauty is optional!
And before you ask, Fallingwater and me never hit it off. The less we talk about that, the better. nm FLW)
