Ma: Nu, when are you going to bring home a nice Jewish husband, Nuëlle?
ENG: Mum, about that …
ENG: I'm not sure how to break the news to you, but …

ENG, timid: I don't like men, mum.
ENG: I'm — I'm a lesbian.
[[Ma is nonplussed]]

Ma, emphatically: Nu, when are you going to bring home a nice Jewish wife, then?
Ma: I know this doctor they say things about!

*In case you weren't around when they were hip, those "earrings" aren't actually tassels, nor are they cones. It's an ornamental silver triangle thing that carries a number of silver chains on its hypotenuse, to an overall length of about 3". Hey, that was last century, "subtle" hadn't been invented yet.
I'm fact I'm not so sure about style, either.
I think I still have one of those collar things.
Which reminds me of this one time — well, sometimes I'll be in the hypermarchet wondering what the heck I wanted in the first place anyway, and when that happens, I have the good manners to get my cart out of the way so other people can still traverse the aisle. So this one day I was in Deep Thought, parked in some aisle or other, and this acquaintance of mine sees me, and the dialog goes something like this: "Oh hiiiiii … oh, I didn't realize you had a dog." "I don't." (Only at that point do I notice that I'm parked in front of the collars.) So she's like, "I /see/.", and I can outright /sense/ her adjusting the little indicator on her people rate-o-meter that is labeled "Azundris."

*Le sigh. Another downsizing artifact: I actually painted in two-tone eyeshadow. Which is all but invisible now.
